Material Guide

Granite vs. Engineered Quartz

Natural Stone

Granite

Formed over millions of years, natural granite offers a unique character no two slabs share. Rich mineral veining, depth, and warmth make it the timeless choice for heirloom kitchens.

  • Unique pattern — no two slabs identical
  • Heat resistant surface
  • Sealing required every 1–3 years
  • Wide range of colours and movements
  • Increases property value
Engineered Stone

Quartz

Engineered quartz combines crushed quartz crystals with polymer resins to create a non-porous, maintenance-free surface available in hundreds of consistent, repeatable designs.

  • Non-porous — never needs sealing
  • Consistent, uniform patterning
  • Highly stain resistant
  • Ideal for busy family kitchens
  • Wide colour and finish options
Buyer’s Guide

How to Choose the Right Countertop

Durability

Both granite and quartz rank 6–7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Quartz is slightly more resistant to chipping at edges; granite is more heat-tolerant. Both will last decades with proper care.

Maintenance

Granite requires periodic sealing — typically once a year with a quality penetrating sealer. Quartz requires no sealing. Both surfaces should be cleaned with pH-neutral products only.

Colour & Style

Granite’s natural movement pairs beautifully with traditional and transitional cabinetry. Quartz’s clean patterns suit modern and contemporary designs. We can help you choose the right fit.
